MISSION STATEMENT:
AVID’s mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society.
WHAT IS AVID?
AVID is an academic program that focuses on writing as a tool of learning, the inquiry method, collaborative teamwork, and reading.
AVID students are enrolled in a rigorous curriculum as well as an elective.
The AVID elective class provides:
• academic instruction
• tutorial support
• motivational activities
AVID OBJECTIVES
To provide academic instruction and other support to prepare students for success in high school and beyond.
To motivate and equip students to see themselves as successful college-bound students.
To develop leadership skills
To learn and demonstrate the habits of successful students.

THE AVID STUDENT

THE AVID PARENT
AVID parents encourage their students to achieve academically, may participate in site team meetings, and maintain regular contact with the AVID coordinator.
THE AVID CURRICULUM
Based on rigorous standards, the AVID curriculum was developed by middle and senior high school teachers in collaboration with college professors. It is driven by the WICOR method, which stands for writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading. The AVID curriculum is used in AVID elective classes, in content-area classes in AVID schools, and even in schools where the AVID elective is not offered.
THE AVID TUTOR
Tutors are essential to the success of the AVID elective class, where they facilitate student access to a rigorous curriculum. AVID students who continue their education in college often return to the program as tutors.
WHAT AVID IS NOT:
AVID is not an “at-risk” program. It is designed to support students to attend and graduate from a four-year school.
AVID is not for students who fail to complete homework or consistently receive grades of “D” or “F.”
AVID is not for unmotivated students.

As a part of the AVID program students will participate in the following activities:
Team building activities
