School Safety & Security Committee

Purpose

  1. To develop and implement emergency plans consistent with the District's Multi-hazard Emergency Operations Plan.

  2. To periodically provide recommendations to the Board of Trustees and administration regarding updating the District's Multi-hazard Emergency Operations Plan.

  3. To provide any information needed in connection with a safety and security audit or report required by §37.108 or other report submitted to the Texas School Safety Center.

  4. To review any reports that will be submitted to the Texas School Safety Center to be sure the report contains accurate and complete information.

  5. To consult with local law enforcement to increase the presence of law enforcement near District schools.

Membership

In accordance with SB11, the expansive school safety bill passed during the 86th Legislative Session, a school district is required to include certain members of its School Safety & Security Committee. Texas Education Code §37.109 sets out the required makeup of the Committee. In addition to the Superintendent, Board President, and one other Board member, the Committee must also include: one or more representatives from the office of emergency management; one or more representatives of a local police agency; one or more representatives of the District's police department; two additional Superintendent designees, one of which must be a classroom teacher; and two parents of students enrolled in the District.
