Sam Houston Elementary was founded in 1938 and was the first dedicated elementary school in Conroe ISD. In 2007, the school moved into a new building around the block on Thompson Street. Sam Houston Elementary now serves over 700 students.
The school is named for Sam Houston, who was the general of the Texian Army which secured Texas' independence in 1836, and was the first president of the Republic of Texas. He also served as a senator when Texas became a member of the United States in 1845.
